Promotions of donations – personal funds of Ante Popovski and Mateja Matevski

Donations of personal funds of Ante Popovski and Mateja Matevski will be promoted in the NI Museum of the Macedonian Struggle for Independence on May 30, 2024, Thursday, at 7 p.m.

Thanks to the cooperation with the Popovski and Matevski families, the museum enriches the funds with donated materials for the eminent representatives of the second generation of Macedonian writers whose works left a strong mark on the social and cultural scene in the second half of the 20th century.

Ante Popovski (1931, Lazaropole – 2003, Skopje) is a Macedonian writer, poet and essayist, publicist, screenwriter, producer, translator, social scientist and academician. As a member of MANU and the World Academy of Poetry of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), he is profiled as one of the promoters of the Macedonian literary and cultural scene at the national and international level.

Mateja Matevski (1929, Istanbul, Turkey – 2018, Skopje) is a significant figure in Macedonian contemporary literature and culture, a poet of European lyricism, essayist, journalist, translator, literary and theater critic. Prominent social scientist and member of MANU since 1970 with a significant contribution to the field of literature and culture of Macedonia.

The activities are part of building close relations with the public through collecting important materials related to the road to Macedonian statehood and freedom, started from the opening of the museum until today.

The projects are part of the museum’s annual program for last year, realized with the support of the Ministry of Culture.
